Metro-reality.com, NEW DELHI: The Dalai Lama, who condemned China as a separatist, will start Sunday’s weeklong visit to a remote province of India, which is also claim by Beijing, while both countries were struggling to cope with border disputes.

Tibetan spiritual leader who had been exile to defend a visit to Arunachal Pradesh as a mere visit lectures, but the plan has led to requests harsh criticism from Beijing. The visit was carried out only two months after the Dalai Lama’s visit to Taiwan, an island also claimed by China.

The Dalai Lama fled from Tibet to India in 1959, after a failed uprising against China’s rule. Beijing called him a dangerous separatist who pushed for independence of Tibet, an accusation denied. He said he was only seeking autonomy for Tibet.

A visit to Arunachal Pradesh occur when the two Asian giants, who fight over the border in 1962, tried to reduce tensions on the mobilization of troops along their disputed border. Increased trade has improved relations, but the suspicion remains.

“The Dalai Lama’s visit is a silent admission that Tawang was part of India,” said Srikanth Kondapalli, Head of East Asian Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Wednesday (4 / 11).

Tawang, in Arunachal Pradesh, the birthplace of the sixth Dalai Lama and part of the territory has considered Beijing as Tibet “south”, is the center of the border dispute.

China Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Ma Zhaozu, said the visit showed an anti-China Dalai Lama, who tried to undermine the Beijing relations with India.
