Steve Carell and Tina Fey  are in a box-office clash with the gods of Mount Olympus.

No. 1 bragging rights for the weekend were too close to call Sunday, with 20th Century Fox estimating a $27.1 million debut for Carell and Fey’s comedy “Date Night” and Warner Bros. reporting the action tale “Clash of the Titans” at $26.9 million.

Rankings will be sorted out Monday when studios release final numbers, which can vary by $1 million or more for some films compared with Sunday estimates.

Warner executives said they tracked “Clash of the Titans” as No. 1 for a second straight weekend, with “Date Night” trailing by about $1 million.… Continue reading

Mariah Carey shows off her surfing skills as manages to balance on a board while holidaying in Puerto Rico. Joining her in the water were her three dogs, JJ, Cha Chan and Dolomite.

But it seemed there just wasn’t enough room for all four of them – with one pooch seen in mid wipe-out. Mariah is taking inspiration in Puerto Rico where she is writing new material for her Christmas album, set for release with Mercury Records later this year.

Meanwhile her husband Nick Cannon has revealed in an interview that he thinks it’s funny when people call him ‘Mr Mariah Carey.’ The stand-up comedian and actor, made his comments in the latest issue of JET.

Cannon, 29, who has been married to the pop diva for nearly two years, says: ‘That stuff is humorous to me.

Royal wedding speculation grew yesterday after claims that Buckingham Palace has ‘cleared its diary’ for a June announcement of an engagement between Prince William and Kate Middleton.

According to well-connected former editor and author Tina Brown, aides plan to announce on either June 3 or 4 that a wedding will take place in November.

Miss Brown was a personal friend of William’s mother Diana and has published a well-received biography of her. She said the hint had come from an anonymous – but impeccable – royal contact.

The doctor charged over Michael Jackson’s death made an initial court appearance in Los Angeles today as crowds of the singer’s fans rallied outside the courthouse.

Members of the Jackson family including his parents Joe and Katherine, sister Janet and brothers Jermaine and Randy also attended the hearing for Dr Conrad Murray, 52,  who has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

The case in Los Angeles Superior Court is aimed at assigning a judge and setting a preliminary trial date. Dozens of fans rallied outside wearing T-shirts emblazoned with Jackson’s picture and the slogan Justice for Michael.

They also carried placards demanding stronger charges against Dr Murray over  his death. Some fans said they came from as far as the Netherlands and France and brought a huge banner signed by fan club members in Europe.… Continue reading

In a statement on his website, Martin says: “I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am.”

The Livin’ La Vida Loca singer’s sexuality has been speculated about for years, but he’s never directly addressed it and has often been seen with beautiful women.

But the 38-year-old singer says that writing his memoirs helped him realize that he had to be free with himself, and not keep any more secrets. His book hasn’t been published yet.
