Microsoft Prepare Massive layoffs
Metro-reality.com, WASHINGTON: The giant U.S. computer software, Microsoft, will cut more than 800 jobs and laying off 5000 employees.
“Earlier this year, we announced that in order to reduce costs, increase efficiencies and prioritize our focus areas, we will eliminate about 5000 positions in June 2010,” said Microsoft spokesperson, Lou GellosMicrosoft in a statement, Wednesday (4 / 11).
“Today, we are eliminating approximately 800 positions spread across several businesses and locations and have completed our reduction plan earlier than had been anticipated 11 months ago,” he said.
According to Lou Gellos what we are done now for the sake of continuing their business. Since January and the company is based in Washington have made large layoffs. Previously they had 91,005 employees.
Microsoft last month reported that its net profit fell 18 percent in the first quarter of fiscal year to 3.57 billion dollars, or 40 cents per share, from 4.37 billion dollars, or 48 cents per share, a year ago.
Revenue fell 14 percent in the quarter that ended on September 30, to 12.92 billion dollars. It is the third quarter in a row of revenue for the company founded by Bill Gates, but exceeding analysts’ estimates 12.37 billion dollars.
Microsoft has been hit by weak demand worldwide for personal computers and hopes to get a boost from the release last month that much-vaunted next generation operating system Windows 7.
