How to Choose a Realtor
Selling or purchasing real estate can be a tricky and stressful process. Hiring the right realtor to guide you can make all the difference.
Have you noticed that there is a realty office on every corner and houses for sale everywhere? The Multiple Listing Service (MLS) allows all realtors, licensed in the state, to sell all houses. Further, the economy has created a situation where realtors just want to SELL, sell, sell!
We have so many choices among realtors and realty companies, it seems overwhelming.
Well, not really. You need to find the realtor who stands out in the types of properties, expertise, quality of service, and most important, and client care.
Obviously, your realtor should have the knowledge to help you navigate the process successfully. In addition to knowing the state and local real estate laws and requirements, he/she should also have experience and in-depth knowledge of the area. A good realtor is also someone who loves to work with people – even on the BAD days!
However, more than that, an outstanding realtor has YOUR best interests at heart.
He doesn’t simply sell a house. He thoroughly explains the location, the various neighborhoods, the clientele in each neighborhood, the success or lack of success of sales in the neighborhoods, the history of the houses that interest you, the quality of the sale and the quality of your investment… not just for now, but also for the future.
A realtor must be courteous, friendly, knowledgeable, straight-forward and honest. He/she must knows his/her stuff. He/she must know history, of the area and the houses…the best deal and he/she must want you to get the best deal. Your realtor must know the potential for a bad decision…and TELL YOU!
And, yes, when appropriate, your realtor must advise you NOT to buy property that he/she knows is not in your best interest.
Client care is at the core of the realtor’s service.
Good realtors are everywhere. But, not all are the best.
Look for the best!
